The show that Ashton Kutcher and Tyra Banks put together,"True Beauty", premiered last night. There's only one word to describe it: Funny.
I'm not one to judge people, but I still find it amazing that there are people out there who are really full of themselves!
In case you don't know, "True Beauty" is a show that puts contestants together who think they're on the show to compete to be the most beautiful person. Little do they know that the judges are actually judging them on their inner beauty vs. their outer beauty. They're put through a series of "tests" to see how they'll act - all the while the judges are watching them through hidden cameras.
The winner of this contest gets $100K plus a spread in People Magazine's "100 Most Beautiful People".
So, who will be the finalists for the show? Well, based on first impressions, these are my top 3 picks:
- Billy - He's the mature person out of the bunch who seems to carry himself pretty well. Very laid-back.
- CJ - He understands that beauty cannot be measured or scored.
- Monique & Julia - It's a toss-up between these two. We didn't get to see too much of them in this first episode, but they didn't seem to be full of themselves like the other contestants.
The focus of this first episode was on Chelsea and Hadiyyah-Lah who were the ones that ended up being in the bottom two. They were put up for elimination and subjected to one last test: Which one would be willing to help out a stranger? Well, Hadiyyah-Lah failed the test. I had a feeling it would be her. She was so upset about being scored last by the "beauty doctor".
In my opinion, if you really don't care what other people think about you, you wouldn't be so upset about some bogus "beauty score". I'm sure that Hadiyyah-Lah is a good person deep down inside, but she has some growing up to do. She'll get there though.
What we can get out of this show is the lesson that beauty really and truly is skin-deep. People will probably think that "True Beauty" is just another reality TV show, but I think it's more than that. If it takes mainstream media (a.k.a. "Reality TV") to get the message out, so be it.
