Taking Care of Your Inner Beauty Is Like Taking Care of Your Hair

Every year around my birthday I get a new haircut. I typically don’t do anything out of the ordinary, although I should follow my own advice and be a little daring every once in awhile. This year I had about 3 inches cut off with layers. Nothing fancy, but it did make me smile :)

There’s something about a haircut that, for me, symbolizes “new beginnings” and a fresh, new me. Perhaps this idea began years ago after I had broken up with an ex-boyfriend and decided to completely chop off 90% of my hair. Unless a hair stylist completely messes up, women usually feel good about themselves after a new haircut, right? We invest in our hair - both financially and emotionally - and for good reason. The Balance of Inner and Outer Beauty Is in the Details

Lately I’ve been mulling over this idea of achieving balance between inner and outer beauty. Many of us tend to focus on one over the other. When all you think about is outer beauty, you might believe that outer appearance is the basis of beauty. On the other hand, when you focus on inner beauty, you could believe that physical beauty is superficial.

Although I know in theory that your inner beauty shines through to reveal your outer beauty, it’s taken awhile for me to truly understand this. I now know that inner beauty is in the little details or actions you take - whether it’s offering a smile to a stranger, eating the right foods, wearing clothing that flatters your body, or using the right hair tools. These are all little things you can do to take care of yourself, and they add up to make you the unique person that you are. Read more...

I love flowers. My favorite subjects in my paintings are flowers. When I go walking in the neighborhood, I always stop to admire the beautiful flowers in my neighbor's yards. And if you follow me on Flickr, you would notice all the flower photos I've taken over the years.

Good Health Is Part of Inner Beauty

When we think of inner beauty, we think of self esteem, self confidence, and all the intangible characteristics that make us who we are. However, I believe that having good physical health is part of establishing your inner beauty as well. When you are healthy, you have more energy. You feel alive and there’s more pep in your step. Healthy people are generally happier people overall.

Thank God I’ve never had any major health issues. I’ve always been very active, playing sports as a kid and maintaining an active lifestyle as an adult. I can probably attribute my good health to exercise and eating healthy foods.

Would Matching Underwear Bring Out My Inner Beauty?

Not too long ago a friend and I were shopping for bras, and she found a real pretty light teal push-up bra.

“Ok, now it’s time to find a matching pantie to go with it,” she said.

Matching pantie?

Up until that day I considered underwear to be just something women wore - a basic necessity in life. That’s it. No more, no less. I wore whatever underwear was clean that day, and I certainly didn’t pay attention to whether or not the style or colors matched. Who cared if the bra matched the pantie? I’m the only one (besides my boyfriend, on occasion) who would see my underwear anyways.

Can Shoes Reveal Your Inner Beauty?

What do your shoes say about you?

When I first take notice of someone - whether a woman or man – I usually look at their shoes. For me, the shoes speak volumes about a person. Even if I don’t exchange words with that person, I can tell whether he or she is a practical person, they’re down-to-earth and classy, or if they take pride in themselves.

I wouldn’t say that womens shoes actually reveal their true inner beauty, but shoes do enhance and express their personality. However, I will say that regardless of what brand, label, or style of shoes a woman wears, it’s how she takes care of those shoes that does say a little about who she is on the inside. Someone who is confident and has high self-esteem tends to take care of her shoes. A woman who doesn’t feel good about herself doesn’t pay attention to the details. She’ll wear shoes that aren’t clean or polished. Read more...
